Dear friends and collegues,
as the first module of CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator is approching, it is our pleasure to share with you some more insights!
This year we will have a wonderful case study for our first module: Lin Alluna with her film TWICE COLONIZED.
TWICE COLONIZED, following the striking fight of Aaju Peter, a Greenlandic Inuk lawyer to advocate for Inuit rights, is both powerful and intimate and we couldn't be happier to have Lin with us.
The film was developed in CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator 2020 and presented at CIRCLE Showcase Cannes Docs - Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes in 2022, winning the top Docs-In-Progress Award. Since then, the movie has collected major awards and festival presence: it had its World premiere at Sundance 2023, at HotDocs and CPH:DOX 2023 and Sheffield Docs 2023. Recently, it won 'Ted Rogers' Best Feature Length Documentary at the Canadian Screen Awards 2024.
During the acceptance speech, alongside director Lin Alluna and producer Bob Moore, Aaju Peter, the protagonist and co-screenwriter, celebrated the artistic and activist effort of cinema and documentary by saying: “Thank you all for making films and documentaries because when you tell your story it is heard and so many people need to hear”.
Like last year, our first workshop module will take place in Edipsos on Evia Island, Greece, July 2-7. We wish to thank our dear partners at Thessaloniki International Film Festival - ENG & Agora, with whom we are collaborating as part of their third Evia Film Project.
