Dear friends and colleagues,
We have some amazing news!
TWICE COLONIZED by Lin Alluna will have its world premiere in the prestigious World Cinema Documentary competition at Sundance Film Festival 2023!
We extend a huge congratulations to Lin and her co-author Aaju Peter for this immense piece of work and their activist and cinematic contribution to the fight for the rights of Inuit people in Greenland and Canada.
Twice Colonized was developed through CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator 2020. It was also curated for the CIRCLE work-in-progress Showcase at Cannes Docs - Marché du Film in 2022, winning the top Docs-In-Progress Award, judged as best project and pitch of all the documentary works-in-progress presentations at Cannes in that year.
The film follows the story of renowned Inuit lawyer Aaju Peter, who led a lifelong fight for the rights of her people. When her youngest son unexpectedly passes away, Aaju embarks on a highly personal journey to reclaim her language and culture after a lifetime of whitewashing and forced assimilation. Is it possible to change the world and mend your own wounds at the same time?
Twice Colonized is directed by Lin Alluna (Denmark) and produced by Emile Hertling Péronard (Ánorâk Film, Greenland & Denmark), Alethea Arnaquq-Baril (Red Marrow Media, Canada), Stacey Aglok MacDonald (Red Marrow Media, Canada) and Bob Moore (EyeSteelFilm, Canada). The film was written by Lin Alluna and Aaju Peter, the main protagonist.
We would also like to congratulate our beloved mentor Diana Ej Jeiroudi on being selected in the World Cinema Documentary competition with the amazing 5 SEASONS OF REVOLUTION that she produced with all her heart.
We wish the best of luck to both teams!
CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator takes great pride in the accomplishments of all the films developed in the framework of CIRCLE training initiatives. The stories that our alumnae work so devotedly on travel all around the world, capturing the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere. It is a great honour and pleasure to see our community of women documentary filmmakers change, take up space and grow stronger.
Lin Alluna (CIRCLE 2020 alumna) Diana El Jeiroudi (CIRCLE mentor)
