Cent’anni by Maja Prelog Awarded at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival in 2024

Updated: Aug 27

We’re excited to announce that Cent’anni, the first documentary feature by our dear alumnae CIRCLE 2020 Maja Doroteja Prelog, had its international premiere and won the Special Award for Promoting Gender Equality at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival 2024! The competition jury included Paul Schrader as president (director/screenwriter, USA); Sebastian Cavazza (actor, Slovenia); Una Gunjak (director/screewriter/editor, Bosina and Herzegovina); Juho Kuosmanen (director/screenwriter, Finland); and Noomi Rapace (actress/producer, Sweden).

Back in 2021, during the second year of our collaboration with Cannes Docs and Marché du Film, Maja had already proved her talent when Cent’anni was awarded the biggest Docs-in-Progress award in partnership with IEFTA, as part of our Cannes Showcase program.

In Cent’anni, initially intended to chronicle Maja's partner Blaž Murn's celebratory cycling journey across Italy after surviving leukemia, evolves into a deeply personal exploration of their relationship and human bonds. The film blends beautiful cinematography with an intimate, introspective narrative, capturing both the physical journey and the emotional unraveling of the couple. Prelog’s hands-on approach and the film's technical excellence make it a raw and sincere portrayal of love, illness, and personal transformation.

Cent’anni is directed by Maja Doroteja Prelog (Slovenia), produced by Rok Biček (Cvinger Film, Slovenia), Alessandro Leone (Agresywna Banda, Poland), and Massimo Casula (Zena film, Italy). Cent’anni is a Slovenian-Italian-Polish-Serbian-Austrian production staged by Cvinger Film in co-production with Zena Film, Agresywna Banda, RTV Slovenia, Wake Up Films, Zwinger film, RÁTNEEK, Cavatina Film Production, Fundacja Fiducia and Adria Mobil.

Congratulations, dear Maja!

From CIRCLE team.
